The Eagle Has Landed

The Eagle Has Landed, 2009

While driving around Bridgehampton on the East End of Long Island I came across an abandoned home which in and of itself is an oddity in an area known to have some of the most expensive real-estate on the planet. Somehow this home has been allowed to decay despite its proximity to the homes of the rich and famous and my curiosity made me pull over. As I approached I noticed that this house had a special quirk, it was covered in eagle signs. I used my Nikon D3 with 24-70mm to capture the house from all angles. This image shows the front entrance and porch, many of the signs are still fixed to the wall. Next time I visit the area I plan to find out who owned the house. Whomever it was loved this country a lot but when they moved on they left their patriotism behind. I wonder why?

Cockroach

Cockroach, 2010

I took this image while testing out my new Panasonic DMC-GF1 over the weekend. It was purchased as a replacement for my Ricoh GRDII which I loved but wanted to upgrade as it was a few years old. I actually purchased the new GRDIII and used it for a day. Unfortunately it broke and I had to return it (and it’s replacement) before deciding maybe it was a sign and I should try something different. I use the GF1 as my compact alternative to my Nikon gear and have been impressed by the image quality the 20mm f1.7 lens delivers. This is my first micro four-thirds camera and I am considering buying a few more lenses for this system. It isn’t as pocket friendly as the GRD series and I miss the retractable lens and cover. I look forward to taking more pictures with this camera in the coming months.

I was walking around the lower east side of NY City when I passed by this kid in a black trench coat and a fedora-style hat. He was almost past me when I noticed the tattoo on his neck. A big black cockroach! I immediately stopped him and asked if I could take a picture of him/it. He agreed and I thanked him and I am glad to have captured this. I have seen some bold tattoos in and around the LES/NY City but this is one of the boldest. Thank you Cockroach, I appreciate you stopping for the picture.
